Why This Program

Manufacturing Innovation Challenge is developed with an aim to solve manufacturing sector challenges through emerging smart technologies.

The platform of Manufacturing Innovation Challenge (MIC) has given deep-tech start-ups the opportunity to connect with leading manufacturing firms. The MIC was launched by NASSCOM CoE to bring the best minds from industry, academia, start-ups, and government to drive a culture of co-creation & research to find solutions for complex business problems. The start-ups are invited to participate in the challenge to propose solutions to the nominated industry use cases and the best solutions get a chance to work with the respective partners.

In the current market scenario, where quick implementations of innovative solutions have become the need, collaborative models are going to be the new trend in the industry. The enterprises need to adopt such ready-made platforms to speed-up their digital transformation.

The usecases

Challenge Area: Quality Inspection

Camera based Solution for 360-degree quality inspection and verification of shrink-wrapped bottles.
In this manufacturing plant, the process of production of personal care product till packaging is automated. However, there are chances of machinery malfunctioning, which may lead to multiple visual defects on the bottles. Defects like live coding on label, label alignment / label miss-match, cap absence/presence, cap alignment, damaged wrapping on bottles etc. Currently the defects are being captured and sorted manually. This sometimes leads to defective products going into the market. Marico is looking for Camera based automatic quality inspection system that can be includes automatic inspection and rejection module.

Challenge Area: Quality Inspection

Quality inspection of 3D fabric using computer vision technology to identity various defects on fabric.

The textile industry is very competitive and to have edge over the global suppliers, the industry needs to have top-notch quality and best cost controls. In one of their plants, Welspun India, produces on an average 60 metric tons of towel, and the production includes several complex processes The manufacturer wants to ensure the quality is maintained at each step to prevent losses..

Computer Vision Solution is needed to be deployed at counting station that can identify defects like colour/shade miss-match, design inspection, dark spots, dirt spots, knots on fabric etc, and other fabric defects.

Challenge Area: Resource Optimization

Production Scheduling and execution to minimize planning time and material losses.

At present, the production planning is done manually end to end, which is a tedious manual process and leads to last minute deviations. This increases efforts of managing inventory and keeping tab on all products produced/left in production. To combat this, Zydus needs an AI based module to create shift wise and line/Molecules wise smart manufacturing planning along with smart scheduling while also mapping it with SAP master planning data. The solution should reflect stock material to notify total production output per shift. The deployed system should be dynamic in nature to take input about deviations and accordingly schedule production plan considering available in-stock material.
